RES-Autonomous Barke describes a new hull-integrated propulsion system for vessels with very shallow drafts, particularly suitable for inland waters and responsive to intermittently occurring low water conditions on inland waterways. The new hull design, featuring span dropouts at bow and stern, enables the integration of four electrically driven rotary wing rotors, in order to limit the draft to 0.7m to about 1.5m. The special feature of the rotary wing kinematics is that the stub of a Reuleaux triangle deflects the flow in such a way that the rotary wing drive is suitable for higher cruising speeds which, with a Voith- Schneider Propeller can not be reached. The Reulaux triangle is oriented in the direction of travel with its blunt side, so that the rotary-wing kinematics of the two- or three-part kinematic rotor blades generate thrust in any orbital position, which can be directed in any arbitrary direction of travel in a matter of seconds.
