The jacketed impeller embodiments presented with this playlist relate to the recently granted European patent: https://lnkd.in/eHaYdVMP; entitled “Ducted-Fan Engine with at Least One Torque Stage.” Each of the ducted-fan engines for watercraft described in the patent specification has a smaller annular blade positioned upstream that serves as a flow guide ring for the airflow directed toward a larger annular blade positioned downstream. As an impeller for a watercraft draws in the flow funnel-shaped, the smaller annular blade is subjected to an inflow at a positive angle of attack. This causes it to generate thrust in the direction of the watercraft's travel up to a speed of 8 to 10 knots. Above 10 knots, the leading vane generates lift perpendicular to the axis of rotation while ensuring the larger annular vane is approached at a positive angle of attack. The smaller annular wing may comprise a sequence of two annular wings arranged behind one another. They are positioned to create the greatest possible positive angle of attack for the larger annular wing without significantly contributing to the system's overall drag. Some embodiments show pod-mounted propulsion systems in which the flow around the nacelle creates a positive angle of attack for both annular blades. Numerous embodiments are possible within the framework of the interaction between a larger and a smaller ring blade, as described in claim 1. For watercraft, the term "jacketed impeller" has been adopted.

Traction Avant: https://lnkd.in/eSZ_kiw3
EU - Patent: https://lnkd.in/eHaYdVMP, Fig.13 and Fig.14.
The video shows the flow around the engine nacelle of a new pod propulsion system. In this system, the torque stage introduced by the patent, which consists of two annular blades, is located upstream of the engine nacelle in the direction of travel of the watercraft. The nacelle is designed to spread the flow of water in a cone-shaped manner. This ensures that both the smaller and larger blades are approached by the flow at a positive angle of attack. This remains true even at speeds exceeding eight knots, at which point the inflow becomes more parallel to the chord lines of the two annular blades. In this configuration, the two annular wings experience the lowest possible flow resistance in the water. The cross-section of the smaller annular blade has a distorted profile that only changes to a hydrodynamically effective profile at the intended rotational speed due to the oblique flow passing over it. Red streamlines depict the flow's angle of attack. Additionally, the front-mounted propulsion system is suitable for generator operation of the electric engine housed by the flow-dynamic, effective designed nacelle. In this case, the nacelle acts as a flow guide, ensuring the flow approaches the two ring blades at a positive angle of attack. The pod propulsion system is mounted on the hull of a watercraft and can rotate 360°. This allows it to function as a rudder propeller. This innovative propulsion system is suitable for small watercraft with 20–200 kW engines, as well as larger vessels with 100 MW engines. The larger fixed ring blade can have a diameter of up to 10 meters.

Electric Drive for a Double Kort Nozzle: https://lnkd.in/eciu7S6p
EU - Patent: https://lnkd.in/eHaYdVMP, Fig.13 and Fig.14.
The smaller annular vane is connected, together with four propeller blades, to the rotor of an annular electric motor, with the rotor and stator of the electric motor integrated into the larger annular vane. Watertight mechanical seals enable the electric drive to be integrated into the larger of the two annular vanes. The suction sides of the rotating smaller upstream ring wing and the larger downstream ring wing are each oriented towards the axis of rotation. The red flow lines show how the water is drawn in by the shrouded jet engine – which can be aligned transversely to the respective direction of travel – and accelerated in the direction of travel within a flow funnel arranged concentrically to the axis of rotation. At speeds of up to eight knots, this flow funnel ensures that both the rotating smaller ring wing and the larger, stationary outer ring wing are approached by the flow at a positive angle of attack and therefore generate thrust in the direction of travel. The lift generated by the two asymmetrically profiled annular wings acts in the direction of travel and, with its thrust vector, contributes significantly to increasing the efficiency of the ramjet engine. Unlike a symmetrical airfoil profile, which forms the casing of the familiar Kort nozzle, an asymmetrical airfoil profile generates around a third more lift. If the on-flow has a positive angle of attack relative to the airfoil chord, the thrust generated by the two annular wings is also a third greater in each case. The electric drive system presented here for the first time, designed for a torque stage formed by two ring blades, is particularly well-suited to watercraft designed for a cruising speed of 8 to 10 knots; watercraft fitted with an electric outboard motor with a power output of up to 7.5 kW can be operated without a licence. For the electric propulsion system integrated into a ring wing, the upper power limit is approximately 1,400 kW, which would correspond to a maximum diameter of 2 m for the turbo propulsion system. The term ‘ramjet engine’ is somewhat misleading in the context of underwater propulsion systems. The embodiment shown in Fig. 19 of the patent specification relates to a funnel-shaped, tapered inlet for a torque stage formed by two annular wings, within a flow channel that narrows in the direction of travel, and in this respect corresponds to the mode of operation of a ramjet engine, with the difference that water cannot be compressed.

Jacketed Impeller 3: https://lnkd.in/ecEBXkMk
EU - Patent: https://lnkd.in/eHaYdVMP, Featering Two Ring Vanes:
Figure 17 of the European patent specification illustrates a new ship propulsion system. The impeller's three blades are connected to a rotating ring vane whose suction side is oriented toward the axis of rotation. A cross-section parallel to the axis of rotation shows a distorted wing profile that reveals its hydrodynamically effective form at an assumed rotational speed of 600 RPM. In this operational state, the flow-effective contour of the asymmetric wing profile acts as a flow-guiding ring for the inflow to a larger ring vane firmly connected to the motor's nacelle of the pod propulsion system. The ring wings, arranged one behind the other in the direction of travel, form a torque stage that generates thrust. The red flow lines represent the flow striking both ring vanes at a positive angle of attack, which creates lift on both ring wings. This results in a thrust force that can be directed in any direction of travel within an angle of 180 degrees. This jacketed impeller also prevents abrasion caused by cavitation at the blade tips. Additionally, the jacketed impeller is characterized by smooth, silent operation, which benefits the underwater fauna. A pod drive of this type can have a propeller diameter ranging from two to ten meters and can be built for power output between one hundred and fifty thousand kilowatts.

A magic set of ring foils: https://lnkd.in/eXVhGgMT
EU - Patent: https://lnkd.in/eHaYdVMP, Fig.1 to Fig.5.
A jacketed rudder impeller is used in a pod propulsion system. At the stern of a watercraft, the engine nacelle is connected to the hull via a pivot, allowing the thrust generated by the two ring wings to be directed in the desired direction of travel. In this example, the smaller ring wing, which is positioned upstream, is rigidly connected to the engine nacelle and acts as a flow guide for the inflow to the larger ring wing positioned downstream. Once the watercraft is in motion, both ring wings generate thrust in the direction of travel as the propeller accelerates the flow locally and directs it in a funnel-shaped pattern towards the axis of rotation. Once the watercraft has gained speed, as demonstrated in the video, only the larger ring wing provides thrust in the direction of travel, as the flow around the smaller wing is essentially parallel. With two concentric electric motor shafts arranged within the motor nacelle, two motor discs can be made to rotate in opposite directions. This causes the flow around the ring wings to be essentially parallel to the axis of rotation.

New pod propulsion featuring a set of ring foils: https://lnkd.in/eVSHg7J4
EU - Patent: https://lnkd.in/eHaYdVMP, Fig.1 to Fig.5.
The second embodiment of the pod propulsion system can also be used as a rudder Impeller. It is rotatably connected to the underwater hull and comprises a first and a second thrust stage. Each stage is formed by two annular blades arranged consecutively in the direction of flow. As in the first embodiment, the smaller of the two annular blades is rigidly connected to the motor nacelle, which is designed in accordance with fluid dynamic principles. To achieve the most powerful possible underwater propulsion, the ring blades of a thrust stage can be designed to rotate in opposite directions. #resjimp5 #resrudderimpeller #respod2 #resship #resshippropulsion #electricpropulsion #thefutureiselectric #teamres

Coordinated swarm propulsion: rhttps://lnkd.in/eSSW7PAx
EU - Patent: https://lnkd.in/eHaYdVMP, Fig.1 to Fig.5.
This patented system features a multitude of pod units which use swarm intelligence to manoeuvre the vessel. Tugboats are no longer needed when entering the port. The ship can manoeuvre independently. Catamaran-like underwater uplift bodies are used to store H2 fuel for fuel cells, which power the electric pods. There is much more in the pipeline. The teardrop-shaped pod itself acts as a flow guide for the two counter-rotating propellers, generating thrust in the direction of travel. Firstly, radial rotor blades generate thrust according to the recoil principle and are connected to outer ring vanes. On the other hand, the flow streaming the smaller and larger ring vanes at the rear end of the pod has a positive angle of attack. This causes a lift force at both ring vanes, resulting in thrust in the direction of travel. The smaller ring vane, positioned upstream, acts as a guide for the larger, downstream ring vane.

RES – Submarine Propulsion: https://lnkd.in/eDzDdjvh
EU- Patent: https://lnkd.in/eHaYdVMP, Fig.6 and Fig.7.
Team RES is proud to present a new propulsion system for submarines. A torque stage with three annular blades is located at the submarine's stern. In this example, the smaller of the two annular blades is designed as a sequence of two annular blades, shown in white, which are rotating counterclockwise connected to stator of an electric drive integrated in the submarin's hull. The suction side of both annular wing profiles faces the hull, utilizing the laminar flow around the hull to generate silent thrust upstream of the downstream-located impeller. The cockwise rotating largest annular wing forms the impeller casing and contributes to the submarine’s quiet propulsion. The torque stage can also be integrated into a surrounding flow channel that is rigidly connected to the hull to prevent sound transmission to the water. Team RES is happy to answer any questions about this extraordinary propulsion system.

Res - Outboard Motor: https://lnkd.in/erxkNdNG
EU Patent: https://lnkd.in/eHaYdVMP, Fig. 13 and Fig.14
The video shows a controllable-pitch propeller designed as an outboard motor with an electric drive. The smaller annular blade leads the direction of flow and is connected to the larger annular blade via pivot axes. The larger annular blade forms the motor housing for the annular stator of the electric motor and is connected to three propeller blades. When switching from forward to reverse propulsion, the rotor blades automatically adjust with a 10-degree swivel range each. The outboard motor can be manually operated within a power range of 5 to 200 kW. In this embodiment, the suction sides of the asymmetrical airfoil profile of the ring wings are oriented toward the axis of rotation. The faster the propeller rotates, the more the flow is drawn into a funnel towards the axis of rotation. The flow accelerates in the Venturi nozzle formed by the smaller ring blade, which can be described as a flow guide ring for the larger ring blade.
